A Soldier's Story - From the Khyber Pass to the Jungles of Burma, by John Archibald Hislop, subtitled 'The memoir of a British Army Officer in the Indian Army 1933-1947'

Book published by Newhaven Publishing in 2011, 276 pages. Paperback (N4202PE)

From the foreword: This book is the story of a bygone age, when young British men went to foreign lands to fight for King and Empire. These are the memories of one such soldier who went to India before the Second World War to defend the Empire. Stationed in the Khyber Pass and along the border with Afghanistan, many of the places he writes about feature in today's reports of the current conflict in this area.

This is not an account of famous battles, but a record of what everyday life was like for an officer in the Indian Army. This memoir allows you to get to know a way of life that has gone for good. Anecdotes, often amusing, reveal the personal detail of his life of derring-do which, in some ways, is a real ‘boys own’ adventure
. Chapters include:

Sandhurst and Ambala
Shagai Fort and Landi Kotal
Hyderabad, Sind
Chaman, Baluchistan
Fort Sandeman & Secunderabad, Deccan
Malaya and Quetta
Jullundur and Waziristan
Burma - Part 1
Burma - Part 2

The condition of the book is generally very good. The covers have one or two very minor scuffs but are clean and bright, the spine is tight and intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
