VITAMIN A

 Composition: 5 ml of oil solution contains 200,000 IU of retinol palmitate (40,000 IU / ml). 1 ml = 30 drops.

Indications

For prophylaxis of proven hypovitaminosis A when parenteral administration is not necessary in: keratomalacia; hemeropia (chicken-blindness); Vitamin A deficiency; prophylaxis of malabsorption syndrome. As an immune system for infectious diseases and stress; gastrointestinal diseases (gastrectomy, celiac, regional enteritis, steatorea of ​​different origins, persistent diarrhea, pancreatic insufficiency malabsorption syndrome, chronic pancreatitis); pregnancy and lactation.

Dosage regimen and route of administration

For the prophylaxis of Vitamin A deficiency without xerophthalmia:

- children over 8 years old and adults - 80,000 IU daily for 3 days, followed by a 14-day course with 50,000 IU daily.

- children aged 1 to 8 years - 5,000 - 10,000 IU / kg body weight for 5 days, then 17,000 - 35,000 IU daily for a period of 10 days.

- children under 1 year of age - 10,000 IU / kg body weight daily for 5 days, followed by a 10-day treatment course at a dose of 5,000-7,500 IU daily.

For the prophylaxis of Vitamin A deficiency with xerophthalmia:

- children over 8 years old and adults - 200,000 IU daily for 3 days followed by 14 daily doses of 50,000 IU / day, followed by a 2-month treatment period at 20,000 IU daily.

- children from 1 to 8 years - 5,000 - 10,000 IU / kg body weight daily, but not more than 200,000 IU for 5 days or until improvement occurs.

For prevention of malabsorption syndrome:

children over 8 years and adults - 10,000 - 50,000 IU daily.

 

Recommended daily dosages in conditions of increased needs:

pregnant women - 5000 IU daily; breast-feeding women - 6,000 IU daily.

There is evidence of teratogenic effects at a daily dose of over 10,000 IU.

Contraindications

Product hypersensitivity, hypervitaminosis A, severe liver and kidney disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and retinoids boost Vitamin A toxicity. Oral contraceptives increase vitamin A levels, and nitrite and cholestyramine disrupt its absorption. The combination of Vitamin A and Vitamin E has shown very good results in the treatment of gynecological, dermatological and geriatric diseases. It is appropriate to combine it with riboflavin and nicotinic acid in the treatment of hemoperopia.

 Adverse drug reactions:

Drowsiness, headache, increased intracranial pressure, ragadia, fever may occur during administration of the product. Vomiting, itching, optic papillary swelling, diplopia, skin hyperplasia.
