This antique padlock is wrought iron and dates to the mid 19th century. Known as a "smokehouse" or "shield" lock, it was likely made with minimum production tooling and considerable handwork (hence they are referred to as "handmade").
This one has the letters "US" on the keyhole cover and works with the somewhat rusty barrel key.
