Thailand Lemongrass Tea
What an absolutely
delightful cup of tea, Cymbopogon
citratus or Lemongrass, is one of many related grasses
with a lemon scent. Indeed Cymbopogon
flexuosus, native to Thailand is used to produce an
essential oil. C. citratus, is originally native to Malesia, a biogeographical region of Indonesia
encompassing Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It is now grown
throughout Southeast Asia. In Thailand it is called Takhrai and is and essential ingredient in many
dishes. In Brazilian folk medicine it’s consumed as a tea for anxiety, In the
Caribbean it’s drunk to boost immunity, and in the Philippines, it is called Tanglad, and it’s
drunk to boost the liver and kidneys. I really enjoyed drinking it on its own
as a straight, but you will find it in many of our popular blends.
I used boiling water and steeped for five minutes, adapt this advice to suit your personal preferences. It does make for a wonderful comforting drink.
