1538 GREEK Comedies
Aristophanes Ancient Theatre Athens Philosophy Divo Venice
“Youth ages,
immaturity is outgrown, ignorance can be educated, and drunkenness sobered, but
stupid lasts forever.”
― Aristophanes
Aristophanes was an ancient Athenian
Greek playwright, remembered for his comedy plays and examples of drama known
as Old Comedy. Writing during the 4th-century BC, Aristophanes was
lesser-known than other Greek philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle.
Aristophanes’ plays were written for festivals in Athens and the Theatre of
Dionysus.
This exceedingly rare 16th-century
edition was collected and edited by Andrea Divo, who was known for his
important translations of Greek classical authors.
