QUANTITY꞉ ONE highly-collectible, Wilkens-Anderson Scientific & Laboratory Supplies Catalog, Circa 1930s.

Our research approximates the date of this catalog to be earlier than 1936.  Thus, this catalog is AT LEAST 86-years old. This catalog would make a fantastic gift for any chemist, laboratory supplies company, or museum with a vintage laboratory / inventors area.  We were simply stunned when we saw the condition of this catalog!  Baring some slight "browning" of pages from eight-decades of age, it looks pretty close to new!

Please, take a moment to read the partial listing of what is inside of this extensive catalog .  This is an original catalog - not a reprint.  This particular scientific, laboratory supplies and chemicals catalog is difficult to locate due to it's age, specialized topic, limited distribution and superb condition.

ABOUT THE WILKENS-ANDERSON COMPANY:  Henry B. Wilkens first opened his store for business on May 16, 1918. The Wilkens-Anderson Company is still an independent laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals distributor.  They have relocated several times - - as business dictated more warehouse space was needed to keep up with their client-base..

*ABOUT THE CATALOG'S DATE:  Many manufacturer's did not include a copyright (or publication) date in their catalogs.   This allowed companies to distribute the same catalog over a period of years - - - without the appearance of having sent an "outdated catalog" (i.e. if a company printed 5,000 too many catalogs, they could keep sending them out until the supply was exhausted).  We have researched the publication date of this catalog and approximated it's date as follows:

The following article appeared in the March 1920 edition of Journal American Steel Treaters Society: "The Wilkens Anderson Company, 213 North Desplaines Street, Chicago, are placing on the market two special devices - one the Wilson Carbon Determination Apparatus devised by Mr. H. S. Wilson, Chief Chemist of the Collins Rotary Safety Razor Company -and- the other, the NoNox Combustion Boats for the determination of carbon in steel developed by Mr. W. G. Calkins B. Ch. E. M. S. of Detroit, Mich..."  This catalog contains the Conrason carbon apparatus and the combustion boats. This address approximates the address listed in the front of the catalog.

An advertisement on Page 915 of the 1922 edition of Patterson's American Educational Directory listed WACO's address as 215-223 North Desplaines Street, Chicago. This address encompasses the addresses listed in the front of this catalog.

Our research revealed that when WACO published Catalog #66 in 1966, they had already moved 4525 West Division Street, Chicago (their present location).  A December 1963 advertisement for WACO's "Titrator" also listed their address as 4525 West Division St.  This dates Catalog #66 and that address back at least 50 years.

An advertisement that appeared in 1936 edition of The Drug and Cosmetic Industry, listed WACO's address at 111 North Canal Street, Chicago (they were no longer listing their address as being on North Desplaines Street). Advertisements that appeared in the 1936 and 1938 editions of The Educational Business Manager and Buyer, also placed the company at 111 North Canal Street.  Other publications, advertisements and articles we located from 1936, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1953 also placed the company on North Canal Street. (NOTE: One listing in the 1941 edition of Entoma [under the headings "Cameras"] listed the company's address as being at 4223 Lake Street, Chicago).
