This is an antique desk hand seal matrix for making the wax seal impressions on the back of letters etc. made with a brass matrix and a faceted cut clear colourless rock crystal handle.

The matrix has been engraved with some sort of cypher - intricate cipher which I cannot actually work out the possible two initials ?

It comes in its original box and the seal insets into the cream velvet base.

No maker's mark on the seal nor any branding on the box.

Please see pictures provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition.
There are some surface scuffs and there may a couple of tiny nibbles on the edges of the cut handle. The box is worn inside and out, with the silk covering the inner hinge being completely torn and frayed.

The seal measures approx. 3 and 1/2 inches long with the matrix measuring approx. 20mm x 16mm.

My stock ref : #T176-13522 in desk seals cabinet.

Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter, or a universal Coke can, and we all know how big those are.
