The Napoleonic Wars were a series of wars that took place during the time when Napoleon I Bonaparte ruled France. They were in part an extension of the conflicts that broke out because of the French Revolution and continued, at the instigation and thanks to the funding of England, throughout the First French Empire. There is no consensus on the exact moment when these wars began. Some believe that they began when Napoleon came to power in France in November 1799, however other versions put the war period between 1799 and 1802 in the context of the French Revolutionary Wars, and consider the breakdown of peace and declaration of war from the United Kingdom to France in 1803, which followed the brief peace period of the Treaty of Amiens in 1802 as the starting point of the so-called Napoleonic Wars. The Napoleonic Wars, which today tends more and more to be called the "Coalition Wars" because they were actually imposed on Napoleon by the Allies, ended on November 20, 1815, after Napoleon's final defeat in the battle of Waterloo and the Second Treaty of Paris of 1815. On the whole, the almost continuous period of wars between April 20, 1792 and November 20, 1815, is often called The Great French War (before the First War). World, simply called The Great War)
