Pines are considered to be at the top of the bonsai prestige ladder. While they are slow to achieve perfection, once they're going, they are far easier to maintain and keep in peak condition. Pines require far less routine maintenance than is demanded by any others.

Bristlecone Germination:
For the best results, Scarify by soaking in water for 24 Hrs. A short stratification of 6 weeks at 40 degrees F* can improve the germination rate. Check once a week to keep the moisture level just damp (Not Wet) as not to mold. After Stratification sow seeds appx. 1.8" deep in a well draining soil. Use a heated propagator after sowing. It will increase the germination rate & speed with some of them sprouting in as soon as 10 days while others may take a week or two longer.
