The Japanese Red Pine has a home range from Japan, Korea, Northeastern China, & the extreme Southeast parts of Russia. An extremely popular ornamental tree for bonsai or landscaping. Also known as "Akamatsu" which is widely cultivated in Japan for both timber production & as an ornamental landscaping or bonsai. Naturally, it can reach height from 30~50' tall.
Requirements:
Light: Full Sun
Soil: Well Drained, Slightly Acidic
Zones: 3~7
Red Pine Germination:
1) Soak the seeds for 24 to 48 hrs in slightly warm water.
2) Cold stratify them by placing in a sealed bag of moist peat moss in the fridge for 90~120 days.
3) Sow 1/4" deep in a container or pot and using a heated propagator, keep the temperature between 68 to 75 degrees.
4) Germination can take months with some seeds depending upon their unbroken dormancy differences, so don't give up as they're very viable.
