New Mexico US 66 route marker.

Up for sale today is this New Mexico US 66 route sign. Made to the exact 1926 federal standard, as used between then and the 1940s along this famous road.

Route 66 needs no introduction - it's been the historic Mother Road, from John Steinbeck to Bobby Troup, and has arguably become even more famous since its formal decommissioning between 1964 and 1985. 66 has become the ultimate lost highway, the road trip that everyone takes...

"Get your kicks, on route 66!" - Bobby Troup

An original of these would cost many thousands of dollars if it ever came to the market. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, for just a fraction of the price.

This sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 2 pounds, 8 ounces, and has been faithfully rescaled from the original size of 16 1/2 by 16 inches down to 12 3/8 by 12 inches.

This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

"Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino..." - Bobby Troup

I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.

"Life doesn't happen along the interstates. It's against the law." - Charles Kuralt
