Hood & Hatch Lift Support
In most cars, the hood or hatch is raised by a stay rod. A handle or a latch inside the passenger cabin is used to raise the hood or hatch. The hood or hatch lift support is often referred to as a gas strut. In newer cars with advanced technology, additional features have been added to open the hood or hatch. Modern cars use gas strut instead of stay rods, and some automobiles use electric motors to open a hood or a hatch, and these electric motors are powered by a button. Such lift supports are referred to as gas-charged lift supports or struts. They are energy storage devices that generate energy by compressing gas within a container. When raised, the energy is released to lift the hatch or hood, keeping it tightly in an open position. These struts are similar to the struts found in the suspension systems , except these struts are thinner.
