Antique Die for Cutting Male-Screw Threads Patent #47,543 May 2, 1865 4 x 4 x 1 inches, weighs 2 pounds

The patent owner is Benjamin S. Hill, New York.  The Manufacturer is Walworth Mfg. Co. was unique as at that time he allowed his workers to apply for patents, then he would purchase them and give them residuals from the sale of the product.  Walworth  also hired many Civil War Veterans. He also put the patent holder's name on it.  You can still see "..hill's Patent" and "May, 1965" on it .
Walworth was one of the first to hire women to work in offices - very forward thinking.  Which is why it is a world-wide company today.   This was the only patent every issued to Benjamin S. Hill and too common of name to find what happened to him and he is lost to history - at least I couldn't identify and I am a good researcher.  I will send a copy of the PDF of the patent application and it shows the link to look at that application on line.

Condition Shows wear, look at photos, not sure when this was actually made off that patent, but it came with someone from the east coast, to Colorado at least 60 or more years ago, it has the stamping marks that I describe in this description.  I do have a printed copy of the actual patent application and the stamping on it match that information.   It is 4 x 4 x 1 inches and weighs 2.0 pounds.    I can do a letter of provenance as I know who owned this in Colorado, purchased from their estate.

Look at the pictures they are part of the description, and, write to us with any questions prior to buying.  All photos are ours unless it is a stock photo.  If it is a stock photo, it is marked "STOCK PHOTO."  Colors are described as accurately as possible --  please remember not all monitors show colors the same, so what color we see on our monitors may not be the same as yours. One person's "mauve" may be another person's "purple."  :)
