TRIBAL ART ANTIQUE 19thC OCEANIC MASSIM TROBRIAND ISLANDS STOOL - TEETH WITCHES!

An extremely rare and Museum worthy find, this very early Oceanic Massim / Trobriand Islands Prestige Stool with incredible age and patina throughout. Further enhancing its desirability the top of the piece is inlaid with Teeth (almost certainly Human) and quite possibly a Female considered to have been a Witch as each of these Teeth are inlaid within a Daisywheel or Hexafoil Symbol commonly seen in Europe in the 17thC and very interesting to find on an early piece of Tribal Art from this region although the area to this day is known to still have barbaric Witchcraft Cults still in practice. The age and patina aswell as the density of the Wood is clearly at least Circa early 19thC or could certainly be earlier, there is an area to the centre where the Tree Sap has become virtually Fossilized as shown in image 9 for an example. The piece really has to be seen to be fully appreciated and is particularly heavy and dense. This is stated to have never been on the open market previously having been acquired from a property in Fife, Scotland and believed to have never left its family heritage!

The piece measures approx 28cm in overall height - approx 38cm in width at the widest points, the weight is very heavy for such a piece at over 7kg which is the limit of my home Scales. The piece is being offered in authentic / untouched condition showing wonderful age and patina throughout, there is a small loss to the feet of one of the Figural supports but generally very good and solid for its age. Please study all images prior to purchase for an accurate report!
