Michael Gielen Mahler Symphonies No.3, 5 & 6 SACD ALTUS TOWER RECORDS

●Description
Condition:New

A miracle within a miracle brought about by tremendous sharpness and the strong contrast of coldness and heat!
SACD single layer of 3 angry Mahler songs. World's first SACD!

Conductor Gielen, who sadly passed away in 2019, and three precious Mahler symphonies released by Altus will be made into SACD for the first time exclusively for Tower Records. All 239 minutes are recorded on one single layer. These are masterpieces of recordings proposed by the conductor himself, and especially No. 5 is a spectacular performance by a young Gielen. The sound quality is also renewed with the latest remaster!

This year (2021), Michael Gielen (1927.7.20-2019.3.8), who celebrated two years after his death, Mahler is highly regarded as one of the best performances in modern times, including the complete symphonies left on the Henssler label. Gielen's cool-headed style, which was different from the passionate Mahler performances until then, was initially greeted by the audience with some confusion, but the style of the song was not lost. The approach that puts a strong frame format to the fore had a big impact on the audience. It is remarkable even in live performances, leaving many famous performances. Among them, No. 7 in 1994, which stood on the podium of the Berliner Philharmoniker as a substitute for Tennstedt, was exceptional, and its performance with all the main members sparked controversy at the time (when it first appeared, it was released as a Tower project board. SBT 1480 ). Gielen's '70s Mahler is truly intense, and the 1971 No. 5 contained here is comparable in impact to the 1965 live performance (ALT339) by Scherchen and the French National Radio Orchestra. It is a far north performance that can be said to be. What is there is an extremely thorough and unforgiving performance by Gielen, and there will be few performances that strongly approach the listener so far. His interpretation at that time, which seems to have evolved Rosbout further, is novel, and conversely, it is surprising that it is possible to perform so thoroughly. This time, in addition to this No. 5, which was released on the market on CD, the 3rd and 6th live performances in Berlin in 1984, which were also released on CD, will be added as an SACD single layer for a total of 239 minutes. The performance was recorded for a long time on one sheet. Nos. 3 and 6 are performances before the complete recording to be recorded with the Southwestern German Radio Symphony Orchestra on the Henssler label after that, and are just the middle point between the thorough and hard performances of the '70s. The fact that it is live is also connected to the continuation of tension and enthusiasm, and there are many interesting points compared to later performances. SACD reproduces even more detailed expressions and atmosphere, so you can experience Gielen's approach more closely. In this reprint, the latest mastering was given by Mr. Keisuke Saito, the owner of the Altus label. In addition, the commentary book has posted each excellent commentary by Mr. Atsushi Suzuki at the time of commercial CD release as it is.

Gielen's Mahler, who is in his 40s, has a thoroughly cool route that is suitable for the former name of "cold-blooded conductor". What a great cut. The embossing of the countermelody to the point of overdoing it. Indeed, it is full of the old "merciless" Gielen clause (from Atsushi Suzuki's commentary on No. 5).
