Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Wim Retera' after own design. Wilhelmus Marinus (Wim/Willem) Retera (The Hague 1890-1955) was a Dutch architect, interior designer, etcher, painter and draughtsman of the Nieuwe Haagse School. He was a student of Hendrik Arends. Later in life he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Hague, and published on applied art. From 1944 Retera started creating etchings, first to depict his experiences of the Second World War. He took great pride in his craft, and printed all of his etchings himself. Very few prints were made from each etching, of more than half of the 87 etchings Retera made only one print is known.
