SCRAMBLER PERFECTION:
CUSTOMIZED HONDA
Individuality and resourcefulness are
traits commonly associated with motor-
cyclists. Nowhere are these traits more in
evidence than on the many customized
machines seen throughout the country. A
large percentage of motorcyclists find great
enjoyment in adding a touch of individual-
ity to their bikes, through the use of chrome
and paint.
Paul Kastriades’ Honda Scrambler em-
bodies just the right amount of flashiness
to set it apart from the run-of-the-mill bike
in a tasteful manner. Thoughtful use of
chrome plating, functional accessories, and
a rich-looking paint job make this an out-
standing custom. <
FIRST HONDA 450 SCRAMBLER
It's not a factory production machine
and you can't buy one, but this is the way
retailer Honda of Pomona, located in
Pomona, California set up this beautiful,
black 450 for scrambles use.
The engine is stock. Tank and seat are
fiberglass ; handlebars are scrambles
type; battery is mounted between the
forks. Ignition system is fed directly
from a CL-77 battery. The starter was
removed, and a CB-77 tappet cover was
used to cover the opening. Swing arm is
extended one inch. Megaphones are
V-12-1% inch; y2 inch was cut ends
to give high-speed performance. Tires are
Pirelli 4:00 x 18’s.
The firm’s rider is Monte Darling, (num-
ber 4 in District 37), who will test the
bike on a drag strip.
From its first introduction several
months ago, the Honda 450 with its dual
overhead cams has stirred unprecedented
interest among competition riders. This
custom-built prototype may very well ex-
ert a powerful influence upon future fac-
tory developments. <
