If you are looking for the FelPro brand and cannot find one, this tool will do the same job of helping you install a crankshaft repair sleeve. Question, what is this tool and why do I need it?

After many years and miles the rear main seal can wear a small groove into the end of the crankshaft. You may see a rear oil leak and seems the rear seal is leaking. You replace the seal and then in a short amount of time the new seal may start to leak. By installing a crankshaft repair sleeve, it will put a new surface at the exact location that the rear main seal touches the crankshaft surface. This new repair sleeve is normally made out of nickel plated steel or some are stainless. It is much harder than the crankshaft surface and normally can last for hundreds of thousands of miles of use! We also carry the sleeves in another listing and even may have a   2pc kit including the tool and the sleeve. This tool makes installing this repair sleeve a quick and safe operation.

Be aware that you also will need a new replacement rear main seal. There are many on the market to choose from. Some people swear by only using an actual OEM Ford part and others will recommend only certain Fel-Pro seals. There are also many others in the market. We would rather allow the end-user, owner, shop decide and choose the seal that they are most comfortable with. Be aware that incorrect seal installation can also lead to rear main seal leaks so it is a great idea to find some online videos going over the correct process before starting this project.

Also, another added benefit of this type of sleeve tool is that you can do this while the engine is still in the vehicle! You will however need to remove the transmission.

This tool has many fitments. Please do your research before purchasing.We use it for the Ford 5.0 V8 but additional fitments includes Ford V6, V8, Chrysler 4 cylinder, Dodge 4 cylinder engines. See the list and years covered below.

This is the tool that is used to install the thin metal repair sleeve to fix oil leaks from the rear main oil seal where it contacts the crankshaft. If your engine is leaking oil at the rear between the engine and transmission, it may very well be from wear on the crankshaft where the rear main oil seal makes contact. Just replacing the rear main seal is usually only going to be a short term fix and may start to quickly leak oil again.

Using this tool along with the appropriate sleeve can be a permanent fix for the problem. It also can usually be done while the engine is still in the vehicle. You just need to remove the transmission. There are many videos online showing the proper procedure. We may also have some of the correct Fel-Pro branded sleeves that fit the 5.0 V8 engine (1983-2004 models) in another listing.

Replacing the Engine Main Bearing Rear Main Seal? You should consider installing a repair sleeve at the same time. This will require using a Repair Sleeve Tool to facilitate the install and make things much easier. This tool will work with the FelPro 16250 repair sleeve and others that are a compatible interchange to that sleeve. There are a few designs of sleeves so make sure you are getting the correct tool for the type of sleeve you intend to use. The 16250 sleeve generally can be installed while the engine is still inside the engine bay. Of course it still requires pulling the transmission. If you are doing a clutch job it is a great time to consider taking care of the rear main seal oil leak at the same time.
