ROXBURY, Vt., Sept. 1, 1971 — Nelson Hayes, author of “Dildo Cay,” a novel that Paramount Pictures made into the motion picture “Bahama Passage,” died at his home here on Saturday. He was 67 years old.
Mr. Hayes was named for his great‐grandfather, Gen. Nelson Taylor, who served in the Mexican and Civil Wars. His middle name was Taylor, but he wrote under the name Nelson Hayes.
Mr. Hayes, who was born in France, subsequently lived for many years in Norwalk, Conn. He was the author of five books, but his best‐known one was “Dildo Cay.”
Besides his career as a writer, Mr. Hayes also pursued a career in business. He was employed by the Lockwood Manufacturing Company in Norwalk, Conn., as secretary, assistant treasurer and a director. He also served on the board of Louis Dejonge & Co., New York paper processors.
Mr. Hayes was a graduate of Yale University.
