Artists and Engravers: Made by 'D. Veelwaard' after 'Jean Henri van Swinden'. Engraver / etcher: Daniel Veelwaard (1776-1851) worked in Amsterdam as an engraver. Author: Jean Henri van Swinden (1746-1823), a Dutch mathematician and physicist who taught in Franeker and Amsterdam.

Subject: Antique print, titled: 'Verhandeling over Huijgens, als uitvinder der slinger-uurwerken, door J.H. van Swinden.' - ('Essay about Constantijn Huijgens, the inventor of the pendulum clock'). Complete with 142 pages of text and 5 plates. The 5 plates illustrate: Huijgens stages of design and predecessors. The last 2 are sketchy etchings after the original drawings. Sizes vary. This essay was also translated by Prof. Voute and published in Edinburgh by Brewster and Jamison.
Condition: Very good, given age. Text is the complete section from an annually published briefing and is as such loosely bound. 5 Plates in rear with original folds as issued. Images show front page and the 5 plates. Size given is the of last plate. Text page size is 4o. (23x26,5cm.). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
