A pierced brass gallery back and large gently sloping desk top opens with a key and working lock.
Lifting the top reveals makers mark Gillow & Co and an internal label "by appointment to the King of Spain" just under the brass stay support that holds the desk top open.
The interior with an carved Georgian arcade of pigeon holes for documents.
The ingenious design has a hidden candle rest hinged into one side. This allows for a lamp or light to rest or for a glass of wine?
Raised on elegant carved turned and fluted legs with sturdy stretchers and on brass castors.
Original french polished patina all round in very good condition.
Original gilt edge tooled leather top in good condition with gold leaf details and invokes the old cigar leather patina.
This desk with its 65 cm clearance and elegant proportions suit many interiors. The exacting quality of Gillow furniture is highly sought after.

Abandoned goods may be disposed of by the seller in whatever manner is chosen. We are sorry to have to note this clause in our listing but are no longer able to store items indefinitely and for free.
