First and only edition. This is a continuation of Spinniker's 'Leerzaame Zinnebeelden.' (Haarlem, Isaac van der Vinne, 1714, and new-title editions of 1756 and 1757), which contained 50 emblems by Vincent van de Vinne. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Vincent van der Vinne Jr.' after 'Adriaan Spinneker'. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry.

Subject: Antique print, titled: '11. 't Is beter dan het schynt.' - ('It is better than it seems'). A fur coat maker standing in a side room inspects a fur-lined coat. An emblem that argues that the exterior says nothing about the interior, in this case exemplified by the fur coat: while the outside may be coarse, the inside is soft and fluffy.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark. Some soiling in the edges (not affecting image). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
