Description: From "Vervolg der Leerzame Zinnebeelden, Spiegel der Boetvaardigheid en Genade en eenige Stichtelyke Gezangen", by Adriaan Spinneker, published in Haarlem by Jan Bosch, 1758. First and only edition. This is a continuation of Spinniker's 'Leerzaame Zinnebeelden.' (Haarlem, Isaac van der Vinne, 1714, and new-title editions of 1756 and 1757), which contained 50 emblems by Vincent van de Vinne. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Vincent van der Vinne Jr.' after 'Adriaan Spinneker'. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry.

Subject: Antique print, titled: '17. Niet alleen.' - ('Not alone'). Two farmers are working a plough, pulled by two oxen under the yoke. The meaning of this emblem is that with the love of Christ one is never alone ('De ziel gevoelt zich echter sterken / door 't heilzaam Godlyk medewerken' ; the soul is reinforced by the benificial divine cooperation).
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark. A faint dampstain in the left margin and image edge. Minimally soiled in the top right margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
