This is an original publicity photograph of Ruth Gilbert (1912 -1993) an actress, known for playing Alice in the first sound film version of Alice in Wonderland (1931), Ruthie on the Telephone (1949) and Me Myself and I (1992).

She was a regular on The Milton Berle Show for NBC-TV (1952-1955) as Milton Berle's spacey secretary and nominated for an Emmy for her role (Best Series Supporting Actress).

Gilbert graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made her Broadway debut in 1932's Girls in Uniform. Playwright Eugene O'Neill cast her in the role of Muriel in the Theater Guild's 1933 production of Ah, Wilderness! O'Neill also gave her the part of Pearl, the prostitute in The Iceman Cometh in 1946.
