This is one of about 2000 antique and vintage printing blocks / plates I am currently working through - all from one old deceased estate collection. These are from c1890s - c1950s. Most are engraved copper, brass, or steel mounted onto wood blocks, some are just the metal plates. These were for printing labels or adverts in magazines and newspapers of the era.  All are very interesting and mainly relate to advertising of loose tobacco, pipes, cigarettes, cigar companies and retailers such as Josiah & Brown of Long Eaton as well as sporting related companies. Football, boxing, tennis, hockey, horse racing etc. Sandown Patent chest expanders. Clothing makers. Patents, and leather luggage such as suitcases and trunks. Boy Scouts Whistles. Some really fantastic PICTORIAL examples too.
I will reverse one of the photographs so you can see what any wording says, but remember they are all backwards in real life!

This is a pictorial printing block depicting a man with a large beard in a military uniform and wearing a Turban. British Raj or later WW1 period I would say and depicting an officer gentleman with his sword. Punjab officers in the first world war also wore this type of uniform.

Not sure if this is meant to be someone specific or someone in a specific regiment.

No maker's marks etc.

Please see photographs provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition.
Normal signs of age and use wear.

It measures approx. 79mm x 28mm x 22mm.

Today 26th January a UK buyer has just got his package I sent to him 1st Class Signed for service which I posted to him on 3rd January this year. That is ROYAL MAIL service inland which is not good enough. Shocking.
I said it would be a sad day when I resorted to using the GSP but today 16th January 2023 I have just enrolled with the Global Shipping Programme due to Royal Mail saying last week they would no longer be taking International post until further notice due to them having been " hacked ". Well that is the last straw, their delivery of ANY letter or package last month was diabolical. I still have customers in the UK as well as INTERNATIONAL customers that I sent items to late November and early December 2022 that still have NOT received their items !! They are lost or delayed in the masses of trolleys in sorting offices and depots around the country. As well as at numerous Customs Clearing Departments around the world.  Waste of time looking on the official RM tracking website as 9 times out of 10 its unavailable - please try again later ! Or it shows me I posted it at my local post office but it has NOT gone anywhere since !!! I'm loosing money by having to refund buyers and RM don't know where the items are.  So Friday, last week when I got " sorry we are not taking any international post " from the post office staff and I was rather disappointed in this whole thing.
Obviously I will be using RM to send to the shipping centre and yes overseas buyers will have to pay MORE but at least I believe you will get a much better service from GSP than you will from RM if the last two months are anything to go by, I cannot see RM performing any better in the weeks and months ahead. Unfortunately I have lost all confidence in them as a company to deliver my items in a timely manner to YOU - my customers.

So I looked at GSP and I see it is expensive in some respects but then again, maybe I am not charging enough as I do know that all packaging etc has gone up recently. And the GSP price has the customs charges etc all taken care of, so it may well be all relative.
I hope to get items delivered to all destinations with fast and efficient service from now on. If you do not care too much for the GSP then please do message me and I will send via Royal Mail to you. I think if they don't " pull their finger out " soon and get back to delivering they will be taken over by a much more competent company. Maybe that is what the " bosses " of RM want, by giving a really crap service they will be loosing business everyday. If I stick with GSP, I know RM will be loosing about £25,000 a year from my business alone, and I am only a little " fish ".

I think I am going to knock Royal Mail on the head for International deliveries as they are still under performing in my opinion with mail posted over a month ago still not to their destinations around the world. I really do not think going on strike in November December did them any good. I am certain that every UK ebay seller is thinking the same !!

I combine postage - shipping so please please WAIT for my invoice before you pay when purchasing multiple items. Overseas buyers - If you want to drop me an ebay message in relation to you wanting a number of items I can make a SPECIAL BUY IT NOW just for you to save on shipping costs as the GSP have some strange rules regarding combined orders and the types of items one can send through their system.

To see ALL my other 6000+ items for sale: please click on the VISIT SHOP or click "see other items", strangely both only have a limited view of what I have to offer on each platform so to see everything click on Shop by Category which will give you a much better view.

Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter, or a universal Coke can, and we all know how big those are.

If you see A/F = a/f in the title or description it means "as found" condition which may have scuffs, scratches and damage. In relation to all my listings it does not mean " about fine ". I have used A/F  for " as found " for 45 years.
