Apple SuperDrive External Floppy 1.4MB FDHD Disk Drive (Upgraded from A9M0106 to G7287) 800k to 1.4mb Vintage Mac IIgs.

For your consideration at this wonderful auction is a rare and vintage Apple SuperDrive External Floppy 1.4MB disk drive (FDHD). This 3.5” Drive has been upgraded to a 1.4mb G7287 SuperDrive. This drive is the final version of the Apple floppy drive series and uses the last mechanism that supports high-density 1.4MB disks inside, disks formatted for Mac OS and MS-DOS. It is beige in color and is compatible only with systems that support 1.4MB floppy disks (has the FDHD controller), including Macintosh Classic, Macintosh Classic II, Macintosh SE FDHD (after a ROM upgrade on the SE's main logic board), Macintosh SE/30, Macintosh Portable, Macintosh IIsi, Macintosh IIci, Macintosh IIcx, and Macintosh Performa 200 systems that feature the external floppy disk drive port (diamond shaped 19-pin port consisting of two horizontal rows of 10 pins on top and 9 pins on bottom).

The LED on the front left corner glows red when there is activity from the floppy drive inside the enclosure. Compatibility with the Macintosh 128K, Macintosh 512k, Macintosh 512Ke, Macintosh Plus, standard Macintosh SE, Apple IIe PDS Card, Macintosh HD20 external hard drive are unsupported.

In order to use this on an Apple IIgs as a 1.4MB floppy drive, the SuperDrive Card with part number 820-0500-A from 1991 must be installed in one of the expansion slots on the logic board. The classic rainbow Apple logo is on the front. System 7 is suggested, as the majority of System 7 programs were on 1.4MB floppy disks, and older operating systems, including earlier versions of System 6 may be unsupported. Unsupported systems or logic boards that lack the FDHD controller will render this 1.4MB drive as an 800k drive when in operation.

See pics for condition. Reads, writes and ejects. Has been cleaned and lubricated. Includes Drive, laser printed color manual, 1.4mb & 800k formatted disks.
