The first IRONMAN(R) 8LAP, launched in 1986, sold 400,000 units in one year, thanks to its innovative design and functionality. It is a legendary masterpiece that has been called "the gold standard of sports watches. The watch has been faithfully reproduced in every detail using modern technology with the endorsement of John T. Houlihan, the designer of the time. While maintaining the appearance and functions of the original, the Indiglo(R) nightlight, TIMEX's original full-luminous dial/LCD function introduced in 1992, has been retained for the sake of convenience.

Five colors are available: 1986 OG, a reissue of the original model; Bimmer, an attractive metallic blue; Grey Shades, inspired by the skies over the East Coast of the United States; Blackwatch, a traditional pattern originating in England and Scotland; and a limited distribution model based on Blackwatch.
