The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was developed in the 1950s and was one of the most famous and widespread light attack aircraft in aviation history. Its small and compact size made it extremely maneuverable and ideal for use on aircraft carriers. It was characterized by a simple design, with the characteristic low delta wings and small side vents but extremely functional for operational applications. With the adoption of the Pratt & Whitney J52 turbojet engine, the Skyhawk could reach 1,170 km/h. Armed with two 20mm guns he could carry a lethal offensive cargo consisting of air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, rockets and free-fall bombs. Due to its operational characteristics, the A-4 had considerable commercial success. In addition to the United States it was employed, among others, by Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait, Israel.
