One of a number of really fabulous original Watercolour pieces which are the artist's PROOF work for a design for cigarette card set called "DEMOCRACY IN THE MAKING" which was made for the Amalgamated Tobacco Co. Limited.
All are in their own thick black paper folders, with some information about the piece handwritten in white on the front. Inside the original artwork is covered with a thin bit of paper over the actual painting which has been done on a stiff cream coloured card. Some also have pencil wording to say what the picture depicts under the piece. I cannot see any artists signatures or the name of who actually created these pieces.

I have been unable to find a set of cards named "Democracy in the making" from the Amalgamated Tobacco Co. Ltd. or from any other company that were actually officially made and issued.
I wonder why these never got produced, or they maybe did and changed their series title. I do NOT collect cigarette cards so I have no knowledge of the card design shown.

This piece has been titled:
The Baptism of Ethelbert
Circa 597 AD

No artist's name or signature from what I can see.

The painting is on thick card, and then stuck inside a black paper folder which is marked:
"Democracy in the Making"
Design for cigarette card
The Baptism of Ethelbert
Circa 597 A.D.
AMAL. T.C. Ltd.

Please see photographs provided for more details and visual confirmation of condition.
The black paper folder is a little worn on the edges and corners but it has protected the watercolour really well.

The folder measures approx. 10 and 1/4 inches x 7 and 5/8 inches.
The watercolour itself measures approx. 168mm (6 and 5/8 inches) x 95mm (3 and 3/4 inches).

Most of my items are sent using the Global Shipping Program due to Royal Mail being really quite useless at actually delivering parcels worldwide for the last 8 months, which gave me and my customers a truly diabolical service of which I am still chasing up delayed post.

Global Shipping Program does not allow coins to be sent which is a little bizarre, is that because they do NOT trust their own delivery people to keep charge of the packages whilst on route ? So coins will be sent using Royal Mail.

Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm in diameter which is just short of 7/8ths of an inch in diameter, or a universal Coke can, and we all know how big those are.

If you see A/F = a/f in the title or description it means "as found" condition which may have scuffs, scratches and damage. In relation to all my listings it does not mean " about fine ". I have used A/F  for " as found " for 45 years.
