Before you buy this please message me about our intents with the Keleres faction released in Codex 3. If you don't message me I will assume you just want a small box for just printed cards for the faction, but if you are planning on making a custom home tile/command tokens, I will need to know so I can send you the larger faction box and hex holder.
This is an organizer for the beloved game Twilight Imperium 4th Edition, including the Prophecy of Kings expansion. I like combining all of the expansions into one box so that it is easier to transport, especially with how massive the boxes already are. I looked online and found that most of the other organizers have some lid lift, which I definitely don't like. I also wanted to make it more affordable since the organizers I have seen are usually pretty expensive, even running over $150 in some cases, which I think is absolutely terrible. Even the options where you are just getting a file and 3D printing your own usually say that you need over two kilograms of filament to print on your own, which means just materials are going to cost over $60.
My goals for this design were the following:
- No lid lift.
- Less than 1 kilogram so that material costs would just be for a single roll of filament.
- Fit sleeved cards (I use Sleeve Kings 41x63 - 60 micron)
- Make organizers that could be used in the game so that setup and takedown would be easier (especially considering how long it takes to set up Twilight Imperium)
- Make the organizer modular so that people can fit it into the box in the way that they would like, not just the way that I would do it.
I am happy to say that I have been able to make all of the above work. My organizer has three different methods for fitting it into the box (see pictures in the listing description) and all of them result in no lid lift. I was able to get rid of all the bags (40+) that you needed to organize the game without my organizer and all of the pieces you print will be used in game play, meaning that setup and takedown is minimized. Lastly, if you follow the method that I used, you can print the full organizer with a total weight of 0.969 kilograms, meaning you will only need to buy one roll of filament unless you make mistakes and your prints fail, but I will leave that to you to make sure that doesn't happen.
As some further insight into how I was able to reduce the weight so much (and also the printing time), I found this cool method where you change the solid layers on top and bottom to zero in your slicer settings and change your fill pattern to some cool design like diamonds or hexagons. This saves a ton of weight and you can see in my pictures of the unit boxes, faction boxes, and token boxes how it looks, which I think is pretty cool. This is not something I would recommend if you need your prints to be super durable, but in my experience of playing board games, you generally aren't going to be putting a lot of stress on your organizer, so I haven't had any issues with it. I tested the durability on some of my draft pieces and it takes a bit of force to separate the bottom from the sides and break the piece. If you aren't trying to break it or don't have some massive accident, then you shouldn't have a problem with these. **Please do note that the hex tiles holder and the card decks don't use this method and are run with normal settings, so there shouldn't be as much wear on those components from the holes in the bottom of the organizers.**
One thing that this organizer will not do well is being stored vertically. Because the tops of the unit, faction, and token boxes are open everything will fall out. I chose the open-topped approach because I personally like using the organizer as I play the game, so if you are someone who plans to store your game vertically, I would suggest not getting this organizer.
I have the Codex 1 and 2 printed out and everything fits into this organizer. As for Codex 3, it seems most people are going to be printing just the cards and then using another faction's strategy/command tokens and home system. Other people are going to create Keleres-specific tokens/home systems. I have both options, so when you buy the file please let me know which type of Keleres pieces you want, a small box for just their cards or a bigger tile holder and a larger race box for tokens/home systems. I worked with a guy in Australia to print custom command tokens and home system tiles and they fit the larger pieces.
