'T’HE Harley-Davidson line for 1961 is distinctively
x different. Abounding with advancements, the new
models have many engineering improvements, a complete
face-lifting and a choice of five brilliant color combina-
tions. This year, Harley-Davidson offers a completely
new model called the Sprint.
1961 DUO-GLIDES
Long the standard of quality, comfort and majestic
beauty, the 1961 Duo-Glide with its all-new Astro-Elite
styling justifies the title of aristocrat of motorcycles.
Behind the Duo-Glide’s dynamic styling is the world’s
most advanced engineering. The 74 cubic inch, overhead
valve engine is the automotive world’s most efficient, per-
formance-packed V-lype engine. In fact, many engineer-
ing features found in today’s automobiles were pioneered
by Harley-Davidson. These features include such out-
standing advancements as hemispherical combustion cham-
bers, hydraulic valve lifters, chrome rings and aluminum
alloy pistons.
A completely redesigned ignition system gives you the
most foolproof starting yet. New dual circuit breakers
and large twin coils eliminate waste spark in the cylinders
and prevent backfire. A new engine sprocket design
speeds engine turnover to aid starting.
The smoothest ride in motorcycling is yours with the
famous Duo-Glide three-point suspension. Up front, the
Hydra-Glide fork lets you ride in hydraulically damped
comfort. A spring-loaded seat post gives you comfort
while the rear swinging arm suspension keeps you on the
level at all limes.
SPORTSTERS
Sportster H or Sportster CH—these models are the
hottest motorcycles on or off the road. When it comes to
performance, the Sportsters are unequalled. The 55 cu.
in. engine develops maximum horsepower fast.
Wide intake port openings; jumbo size valves; light-
weight, racing-type tappets; special high-lift cams; and
domed, 9 to 1 compression ratio pistons are the extras
that make the Sportsters what they are today. The 7 plate
clutch system lakes you through the gears with rugged,
trouble-free shifting.
The upswept exhaust system, bobbed fenders and head-
light safely mounted between the sturdy hydraulic front
forks give the Sportsters real class as an all-around sports
model.
Engine of H-D Sprint
THE BRAND NEW 1961 SPRINT
Harley-Davidson introduces the all-new Sprint for a
change of pace. With a 15 cu. in., 250cc OHV engine,
the Sprint is equally at home on the road or in the rough.
The power plant features helical gear primary drive and
a large downdraft carburetor. The gasoline tank holds
4!/^ gallons and the engine will easily get 70 miles to a
gallon.
The telescopic front fork and swinging arm rear shocks
are both hydraulically damped to give a really smooth
ride.
The Sprint has, along with the foot shift, easy hand-
ling controls right at your fingertips. Featuring quick-
adjusting control knobs on the handlebars, slack can be
rapidly taken up on both the clutch and front brake.
Fast safe stops can be made every time with the Sprint’s
large diameter, full width brakes. Style feature is a strik-
ing Calypso Red and White paint job.
For that extra dash, fine styling and the fun of riding
a motorcycle that is out of the ordinary, ride a Harley-
Davidson Sprint.

weight two-cycle engine with a displacement of 10 cubic
inches. A gallon of gas will last up to 100 miles.
