Description: This original print originates from a work by Basan: 'Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l'origine de la gravure', published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates.. It was published by Basan in 1767.

Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a 'Dictionnaire des Graveurs' in 1767.

Subject: Original antique print, titled: 'Marine'. It shows: an allegorical emblem with a sailing ship in a central round shield, with a fasces above it, from which a trident protrudes. The sides of the emblem show fruit and produce from all over the world.
Condition: Very good, given age. Minimal foxing in the margins.General age-related light toning and/or staining from handling. Please study scan carefully
