James Sutton, engraver

after an oil painting by

Homer Dodge Martin
(1836-1897)

* * * A WHITE MOUNTAIN BROOK * * *

The actual image measures 13" x 9"
Printed on paper measuring 16 1/2" x 11 1/2"
Nothing printed on reverse.
It is my understanding that this is a wood engraving.
Signed "H D Martin" within the artwork at lower left.
Signed at lower right by the engraver "J Sutton"

My photo of the entire sheet is rather poor, having been done with an old digital camera. The other illustrations in this listing are all much more accurate SCANS, which reveal the fine detail of the work. Got it?

Great clean condition: no markings, spots, toning, tears, etc.
Will frame beautifully!

I believe this was from the popular periodical "THE ALDINE" 1873

I have been unable to ascertain the current location of Martin's original oil painting,
which makes this work only more intriguing!

This is absolutely guaranteed to be an original 19th Century engraving,
absolutely NOT any type of modern reproduction.

My family has been in the antiques and design business since 1955!
