Map of London
extending from Hyde Park, Regents Park, and Chelsea in the West; following the
Thames to the border of Essex with the West India and East India Dock and the
Isle of Dogs at the East. All streets are clearly marked and an extensive
legend is beneath the map.
Comes with the
original slipcase, titled “Cruchley’s New
Plan of London with the East and West India Docks, in Miniature, Improved to
1831: Containing a Table of Reference to upwards of 600 Principal Streets,
Squares, Public Buildings, Etc.”
Cruchley (1787-1880)
worked under Aaron Arrowsmith and later acquired the stock of George and John
Carey. “Some of the clearest and most attractive London maps to appear after Faden’s
1810 edition of Horwood were published by George Cruchley” Howgego, p. 24.
Scarce map in fine condition, minor pinholes in linen at a few intersections - some loss not affecting text, to the blank thinner sides of the slipcase. Rarely seen with the slipcase.
This is an original, almost 200 years old, not a reproduction, in fine condition as shown in the photos. Folded as issued. Verso (back) is blank, laid on linen. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. | ||
