When it comes to original albums, it doesn't get much better than this. We defy you to find an album of original songs, innovative production and more powerful lyrics than this one. Sensory Art is the long-awaited 2nd album by Pop Noir pioneers, Psykick Holiday. The debut album 'Forever Pop Noir' was a testament to innovative production and songwriting that throws you into feeling you are experiencing the subject matter in each track
The first album was hard to replicate or come close to, hence the long gap between albums but finally, PH felt they have a worthy follow up. The Pop Noir music genre has a jazz/punk attitude, a classical ambience, hypnotic grooves, gritty or sexy lyrics and a filmic feel and this album definitely captures that, with many tracks incorporating Oriental and Spanish music vibes. The key instruments as always are Punk Cello, Trumpet, Sax, Koto, Harpsichord, Drums/Percussion, Bass and other-worldly sounds, like Ghost Guitar & unique backing vocals . The album is a voyage of discovery each track is like dropping into a rabbit hole and discoverig a new world.
The
main players are cult record producer/songwriter/vocalist and punk
cellist Russell C. Brennan who was called an Indie production god by
the national newspaper, The Independent and the new Joe Meek by many
others. He has always been a reluctant singer in the band, having had
many brilliant female vocalists, usually front the band. However,
after the popularity of 'One Way Ticket To the Moon, Psychic Holiday
& Sexual Girl on the last album he was encouraged to step up more
in the vocal department. He always wants a female input and French
singer Maiko (aka Aurelie Freoua has now become the female focus and
pinup of the band and adds some interesting vocal and some song writing input to fill that spot). She is also an established
abstract artist, often called the John Coltrane of Abstract art. Its a great album.
It is also signed by the band.
