Artists and Engravers: Anonymous. Emmanuel-Augustin-Dieudonne-Joseph, comte de Las Casas (1766-1842) was a French atlas-maker and author, famed for an admiring book on Napoleon. The French Revolution forced him to move abroad. In 1801, in London and under the pseudonym A. Lesage, he published in English the original edition of his famous atlas, which immediately proved a great success. After returning to France he played an important role in urging Napoleon into retiring to St. Helena. He accompanied him as his secretary and gathered much information resulting in writing the 'Memorial'.

Subject: Antique print, titled: 'Carte Comparative de la Superficie de la Belgique, de la Hollande et des possessions hollandaises d'outre mer. ' - ('Comparative map of the area of Belgium, Holland and the Dutch overseas possessions'). This map shows the Netherlands and Belgium, and inset maps of the Dutch East Indies and West Indies colonies.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original fold as issued. Paper separated at the top of the fold, closed using tape to the front. Slightly browned in the fold. Remains of attachment to carrier to the rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
