USS Argonaut: this fine 358 foot vessel was commissioned 2 April 1928 and converted into a troop transport submarine in 1942 for the Makin Island USMC Raid. Later, she acted as an attack submarine in the Pacific Theater. When she sank an enemy gunboat on 2 Jan 1943, enemy destroyers sank her off Rabaul with depth charges on Jan 10th. Lost were 102 crewmen, and they joined many other "Greatest Generation" submariners on Eternal Patrol. She earned two WW II Battle Stars.
