Description: This scarse copperplate engraved print originates from: 'Opgang, voortgang, en nedergang, der ketteryen deser eeuwe.', by Florimond Remonds (Florimond de Reamond), published by H. Verdussen, Antwerp 1690. This contra-reformation work deals with the origin and history of the Protestant heresy from a Catholic perspective. This work was originally published in 1605. It contains a addendum about 'Jeanne de Pausinne van Roomen', the fable of a female pope, which was originally published separately in 1587. In this edition 30 engraved portraits of historic figures are surrounded by a decorative border with devils, snakes etc. or angels, putto's etc. depending on the religious standing.
Artists and Engravers: Florimond de Raemond (1540-1602) was a convert himself. In 1566 he witnessed an exorcism in Laon, France and he became Catholic. He then started prosecuting Hugenots. The engravings are engraved by Gaspar Bouttats (Flemish, 1625-1695) after the drawings of Henricus Verbruggen.

Lady Grey, also known as The Nine Days' Queen, was an English noblewoman who was de facto monarch of England from 10 July until 19 July 1553 and was subsequently executed.
Condition: Good. Please study scan carefull as this shows condition well. General age related toning and light staining from handling. This sheet with irregular paper edges with small tears and some paper loss in corners.
