This Ixtlan del Rio type Artifact depicts seated figure with armbands, tattooed necklace, head turban and earrings. Artifact stands approx. 7 3/8 inches (18.73 cm) in height, in overall reddish-brown with vibrant areas of yellow and cream colored striping still present. Figures head is characteristically over-sized and presents incised eyes, and solemn expression, piece is adorned by elaborate applied ornaments, tattoos across her visage, and a turban-like headdress. She/ He ? is additionally decorated with applied armbands, an choker-like necklace, painted/negative resist beaded necklace strands, and painted as well as applied bracelets. The level of detail achieved via negative resist is impressive, i.e. the striated motif on her arms and body, the curvilinear, striated, and zigzag tattoos along neckline - all done in a style distinct to the Ixtlan del Rio variety of Nayarit figures Piece has beautiful patina with areas of earthen mineral deposits along with manganese throughout.
