A very nice example of a primitive general carpenters mallet or woodworking mallet. 

It obviously was well used but remains solid. Please study the detailed photos that show the signs of use and wear. The end of the handle has a small hole in it. 

Measures about 14 inches long. The head is about 7 inches wide and has a diameter of 4".  It weighs over 3 pounds. 

We come across a lot of these in New England auctions, and this is one of the nice ones as far as how solid it still is.
