About the Author:
Born in 1982 in New Jersey, USA. Currently resides in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. After graduating from college, he came to Japan and became an English conversation teacher. He was the first foreigner raised in a non-Kanji culture to pass the Kanji Proficiency Test Level 1 and the Proverb Proficiency Test Level 2. In 2013, he was certified as a kanji educator by the Shizuka Shirakawa Memorial Institute for Oriental Character Culture at Ritsumeikan University. Currently, he is active in a wide range of fields, mainly in practical Japanese-English translation, and as a kanji educator, he provides commentary on kanji on radio and television.
Author Biography: Mayer, Bret
Bret Mayer is a native of New Jersey, USA, and in 2012 became the first person from a non-Kanji culture to pass the first level of the Japanese Kanji Proficiency Test. He is a certified Kanji educator at Ritsumeikan University and is widely active in explaining kanji on radio, television, and the Internet.
