Exquisite late 19th Century Benin Bronze Dignitary Ancestral Alter. This cast brass (bronze) Ben, or urhoto, was originally displayed on an ancestral altar dedicated to a Benin kingdom Dignitary or Chief. This Authentic antique tribal cast using the lost wax’ process stands approximately 11 5/8 inches (29.52cm) tall (without stand). True skill and craftsmanship is displayed in this item. Detail throughout this Benin alter is astonishing. Piece displays African Dignitary wonderfully adorned with cylindrical collar and crossed bandoliers worn by high-ranking chief ; also detailed robe, hair, wrist cuffs, adornments holding tool like instruments in each hand. He is flanked by 2 Royal leopards and 2 attendant at rear displaying sword and bells. Base of piece highlights motif of tool like instruments. Very weighty piece (not like the newer fakes) 10.9 lbs. (4.94 kgs), comes with modern wooden base.
