Carol Lombard (Jane Alice Peters) was born in Fort Wayne, IN on October 6, 1908.

She started acting at age 12 in the 1921 film A Perfect Crime. She was signed by Paramount Pictures in 1930. She was cast as a leading lady in drama films. She performed best in comedy movies and married actor William Powell in 1931. After starring in several films, she was divorced and married the "King of Hollywood" Clark Gable in 1937. She wanted an Oscar but was unsuccessful in serious roles. Returning to comedy in two movies in 1941-42. Unfortunately, her career was cut short at age 33. She died in an winter airplane crash in Nevada on Jan 15, 1942, when she was returning from appearances in a War Bond tour.

President Roosevelt named a 441' Liberty Ship in her honor. The proud new ship transported vital supplies to the overseas US and Allied Forces during WW II. The vessel served in convoys in the North Atlantic and her captain wrote a book on Carole and the ship named for her. The ship survived the war and records show the ship's hull was recycled for scrap metal in 1959. The cover has the photo of her husband Clark Gable in an US Army uniform at the ship's launching event.

The cover was prepared on a un-gummed, archive quality envelope.
