2015 Canada $20 Silver Coin Ice Dancer
|
It's the dream of
thousands of Canadian children; to twirl gracefully across the ice as
the world watches in awe. In Canada, where indoor rinks are available
year-round and outdoor skating is a favourite winter activity, this
dream is especially vivid. The Royal Canadian Mint proudly celebrates
this special moment with a beautifully painted and engraved fine silver
coin featuring an original painting by Canadian artist Douglas R. Laird.
The reverse design by Canadian artist Douglas R. Laird features
a full-colour painted and engraved scene of a family skating on a
frozen pond. Based on an original painting by Laird, the design centres
on a mother, father, son, and daughter attired in outdoor clothing,
laced into their skates, and accompanied by two dogs. Standing on a
frozen pond with a tree-lined residential area and bridge visible in the
background, the mother, father, and boy watch the young girl raise her
arms like a graceful figure skater. The young boy holds his hockey stick
as he watches his sister. Large snowflakes fall gently around the
family.
