USS TENNESSEE (BB-43) 1945
Battleship built by New York Navy Yard and completed in 1920. 34,858 tons , armed with 12-14in, 16-5in, 40-40mm guns. Rebuilt 1942-43, with a new superstructure, increased armour protection and a modern anti-aircraft armament, as shown by the model. During WWII she provided bombardment support for the landings at the Aleutian Islands, the Gilbert Islands, the Marshall Islands, Eniwetok, Saipan, Tinian, Guam, the Palau Islands, Leyte, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She fought at the Battle of Suriago Strait in October 1944, when she took part in sinking the battleship Yamashiro during the night action. Decommissioned in February 1947, broken up at Baltimore 1959.
