This is an Original Pair of Corvette Valve Coversventidk1989sweetventidk1989sweetventidEach Valve Cover is embossed with the part # 3726086 and the mfg. Mark is there as well. These are a recent purchase from a fellow NCRS Member. These are not a reproduction.

I have seen plenty of these at Corvettes at Carlisle and other swap meets. Typically, you find them bead-blasted, pitted, damaged, welded, polished, with cracked fins, repaired…etc. These are un-touched and un-molested survivors. They retain their factory chevy orange overspray at the lip that abuts the motor. Overall, they are in real nice ‘USED’ condition. If you want an Original Pair with 60+ years of natural patina, these are it. They can be utilized as is or you can have them restored. There are guys / girls that advertise in the ‘NCRS Driveline’ that make these look as new again (more of a consistent muted sheen). Please see all the photos and use the zoom feature.

Some Early Valve Cover History

This 7-fin low-script staggered-hole valve cover continued into 1958 production until about S/N 3600, when the molds were changed to increase the height of the “Corvette” script from .030” to .125” to improve their appearance. Therefore, this pair are correct for 1957 – 1958 to approx. S/N 3600. (I also believe these are correct for 57-58 Fuel Injection). However, I also read that some early 1957 Fuelies came factory equipped with a 9-fin valve cover, with some of the fins milled off to facilitate the fuel injection. Then in 1959 the two lower valve cover attaching holes (and the bolt holes in the cylinder heads) were re-spaced inward to match the location of the upper two holes in late March, 1959; this new “parallel-hole” 7-fin high-script valve cover was GM Part # 3767493.

Always check your cars specification to confirm this GM # 3726086 is correct for your specific application. If originality is your goal then buyers need to research what changes were made during the “low script” years, in relation to your Corvettes serial #.
