General William Schaumburg Lippe was an 18th-century German
military officer known for his command during the Seven Years War. In 1762,
Lippe was requested to serve in Portugal against Spain where he employed his
superior defensive-minded tactics – tactics that proved dissuade Spain and
ultimately lead to the peace in 1763. Lippe composed an important military
treatise written to instruct on the cavalry regulations, disciplines, and
exercises. This book was published into Portuguese and became an important work
in the development of 18th-century Portuguese military operations.
