Cottage Ware Butter Box and Lid Price Kensington England 1945

This rare, unusual design is not a butter dish with lid, but a butter box with thatched roof lid. Hand painted.

Hand painted cottage shape with thatched roof. The design was very popular in the post-WWII era, as it seemed to give people a sense of comfort and normalcy. These pieces were also successful in the export market because there was so much interest in the English countryside and English tea-drinking.

Vintage item in excellent pre-owned condition; shows wear consistent with age and use. Heavily crazed; recommend display only.
