Here we have a charming Edwardian Sterling Silver Pin Cushion in the form of a Swan. The cushion has a pale blue velvet covering and the weighted base has a darker blue thin leather covering.

This beautifully modelled swan was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Adie & Lovekin Ltd and dates to 1906. Founded in 1863 by James Adie and Alfred Lovekin, the firm specialised in flatware, fancy goods and particularly sewing related items. Their pin cushions are highly collectable. The original partners passed away in 1913 and 1912 and the firm carried on until around 1930.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description.

The swan is 6.6cm / 2.6ins long, 3.3cm / 1.3ins wide and stands 4.3cm / 1.7ins high. Without the cushion it weighs in at 12.7g / 0.45oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 32.2g / 1.1oz.

The hallmarks, on the side of the body just below the cusghion, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the A & L Ld makers' mark for Adie & Lovekin Ltd.
