This auction is for a beautiful handcrafted cardinal bird art tile by Motawi Tileworks out of Ann Arbor, Michigan after the Charley Harper lithograph “Cardinals Consorting”. The licensed Harper design depicts a male and female cardinal consorting atop a sprig. A symbol of everlasting love and the union of two souls, the lovebirds tile would make a wonderful gift for a wife or husband, or your favorite couple. The ceramics studio’s namesake, Nawal Motawi, is an alumnus of the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design and the renowned Pewabic Pottery, where she learned to craft art tile. The back of the tile is marked MOTAWI TILEWORKS ANN ARBOR, MI. The back of the tile also has what looks like a signature marked on it. We are unsure as to how old the tile is but believe it to be retired as it no longer appears to be available at the Motawi website. The tile appears to be free of any breaks, cracks, chips, or repairs. It measures roughly 7 7/8" x 5 7/8" x 5/8" and weighs roughly 2 lbs 5 oz. The tile appears to be in good shape apart from typical manufacturing imperfections (see pictures). This beautiful “Cardinals Consorting” art tile by Motawi Tileworks is sure to be a nice addition to your collection.
